Places to Visit in Malta

If you are extending your visit outside of the ITC Malta event dates, Malta offers a wide range of historic towns, cultural landmarks, scenic coastal views, and dining experiences.

Many visitors choose to explore locations such as the historic city of Mdina, the Three Cities across the Grand Harbour, artisan workshops at Ta' Qali, or take a day trip to Gozo or Comino.

Malta is home to several historic towns that offer beautiful architecture, narrow streets, and centuries of history. These locations provide a different atmosphere from Valletta and are well worth visiting during your stay.

Mdina
Often referred to as the Silent City, Mdina was Malta’s original capital. The walled city dates back more than four thousand years and is known for its narrow streets, historic palaces, and panoramic views across the island. Mdina is located approximately 14 km from St Julians and can be reached in around 30 minutes by car.

The Three Cities
The historic cities of Vittoriosa (Birgu), Cospicua (Bormla), and Senglea (L-Isla) sit across the Grand Harbour from Valletta. These fortified towns offer charming streets, historic buildings, and a more traditional Maltese atmosphere away from the busier tourist areas.

Malta has a long tradition of local craftsmanship including glass blowing, jewellery making, ceramics, and stonework. Visitors can see these crafts being produced and purchase locally made products.

Ta’ Qali Artisan Village
Located approximately 15 km from St Julians, Ta’ Qali Artisan Village is home to a range of local workshops where visitors can watch craftsmen producing glassware, jewellery, ceramics, and traditional Maltese souvenirs. The village also includes small shops and cafés.

Malta produces a range of high quality wines using grapes grown on the island. Several wineries offer guided tours and tastings where visitors can learn more about local wine production.

Meridiana Wine Estate
Located near Ta’ Qali, approximately 15 km from St Julians, Meridiana Wine Estate produces premium wines using grapes grown in Maltese soil. Guided winery tours and wine tastings can be booked in advance.
